SEIKO AGE OF DISCOVERY WATCH 5M45-6A40. Runs well, new Seiko rechargeable battery/capacitor. Sophisticated, energy storing Seiko 5M AGS/Kinetic movement. This is an unusual example of a GMT watch from the Age of Discovery line. This watch has the 5M45 GMT movement with a plated stainless two piece case.

This watch was made in December 1995. If you are new to Seiko Kinetics, earlier referred to as AGS for Automatic Generating System, here is a brief summary of the key points. The watch has a Seiko kinetic/AGS movement where a rotating weight runs a generator that charges a capacitor/rechargeable battery.

It runs "faster than a Formula 1 engine" to quote Seiko's advertising at up to 100,000 rpm. The original design used a capacitor which has now been upgraded to a special design of rechargeable battery which provides a longer run time.

The battery then provides the energy to drive a quartz movement. As the quartz movement has a very low current draw, a fully charged battery in this movement can run the movement for up to 4 months. Recharging is done by normal wrist action while wearing (like a mechanical automatic watch), by deliberately shaking, or using a charger.

The movement has a charge indicator activated by pressing the top button. It has three responses, a five second fast movement, ten second and thirty second. Thirty second is considered fully charged, five second is considered minimal and needs recharging.

In addition at very low charge levels, the second hand will move at two second intervals instead of the normal one. There is more information in the instruction booklet for the movement which is available online.

The bezel on this watch does not rotate (by design). There are two lume photos. On the standard settings the dial is too bright and you lose the details. The darker photo was taken after about 25 seconds.

The watch comes with a new unworn Nylon strap. Dimensions: 3-9 40mm, 4-10 38mm, thickness 11.5mm, all approx.

This is a used watch in very good condition. The caseback has its protective sticker with some opening marks.

The crystal has no obvious marks or scratches, but there are a few light srcatches. Underneath the crystal, the dial looks excellent. The bezel looks very good. Works well and keeps good time. The date and all three hands set as per the manual.

New Seiko rechargeable battery/capacitor and fully charged. The service history is not known. Not tested for water resistance. Included in this listing is the watch itself with the strap. The package will weigh under 0.25kg so the following rates will apply.
